Crystal Pope, CEO and Lead Visibility Strategist at Too Geek'd Marketing - 1st Mondays Mini Podcast

In this episode of the Startup San Diego 1st Mondays Mini Podcast, we talk with Crystal Pope, CEO and Lead Visibility Strategist at Too Geek’d Marketing. A tech-industry veteran turned marketing strategist, Crystal shares how she’s building her Easeful Visibility brand to help wellness practitioners market themselves authentically, and why San Diego’s startup community feels different from anywhere else she’s worked.

Quick Summary

  • Helping wellness practitioners market with ease: Crystal is CEO and Lead Visibility Strategist at Too Geek’d Marketing, currently building her Easeful Visibility brand to help wellness practitioners and guides find the communication methods that work best for them.
  • A first-timer at 1st Mondays, but not new to the community: Though this was Crystal’s first 1st Mondays event, she previously attended San Diego Startup Week and was drawn back by community connections and word of mouth.
  • A connector at heart: With a background in corporate tech and a large network, Crystal often shows up to these events with curiosity, looking to learn what others are building and to connect people to resources even when she can’t help directly herself.
  • San Diego’s community stands out: Having spent time in the Bay Area before returning to San Diego, Crystal says San Diego’s startup community bonds feel notably stronger and more genuinely supportive.

Building Easeful Visibility

Crystal describes her current focus as building the Easeful Visibility brand under Too Geek’d Marketing. Her work centers on helping wellness practitioners and guides, people often uncomfortable with self-promotion,  find a communication method that feels natural to them, so they can market themselves without friction or forced sales tactics.

Why She Came to 1st Mondays

Though Crystal has attended Startup Week in the past, this was her first time at a 1st Mondays event specifically. She credits community connections, including a fellow founder from hopsctch, for bringing her out. Coming from a background in corporate tech, she’s drawn to the energy of these events, showing up mostly out of curiosity to see what people are building and where she might be able to help, whether directly, or by connecting someone to the right person in her network.

Why San Diego’s Ecosystem Feels Different

Crystal started her tech journey in San Diego, later spent time in the Bay Area, and eventually returned. That contrast gave her a clear perspective: while the Bay Area has plenty happening, she feels San Diego’s startup community bonds are notably stronger, with people more willing to genuinely help and support one another. For a founder, she notes, that kind of community support matters, the entrepreneurial path can be a lonely one, and having a “family” to lean on makes a real difference.

The Challenge: Learning to Receive Help

When asked about her biggest challenge as a founder, Crystal points inward. As someone with a wide range of skills who’s used to helping others, she often takes on too much herself. She’s actively working on communicating what she needs help with and being open to receiving that support, rather than defaulting to doing everything alone.

What Would Help Most

Crystal’s ask of Startup San Diego is simple: more events like 1st Mondays that fill the gaps between larger events like Startup Week. She’d also like continued access to community connections and training, especially given how quickly new tools and technologies are emerging,  exposure to what’s possible is, in her view, just as valuable as direct instruction.
