Learn More About Mike
Mike Zahorik is a local serial entrepreneur pursuing his Executive MBA at UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management, while also working to get a couple of brand-new startups off the ground in the health & wellness and ocean green-tech spaces. A self-described “recovering financier,” Mike spent over a decade on the “Wall Street of Chicago,” covering and investing in industrial, water technology, clean energy transition, agriculture, sustainable packaging, and healthcare & wellness companies for Bank of Montreal. He then decided to move to sunny San Diego with his wife and their two sheepdogs, Ziggy and Blue!
Mike is currently developing several new business concepts, including Mind Garden Public Benefit Corporation, a women’s health-focused mindfulness, tea, and aromatherapy company. He is partnering with ReAnn Nicholson (https://www.origins-tea.com/), an accomplished solo woman entrepreneur who sources hand-picked premium green, red, and jasmine green teas from her family farm in southern China and other cooperative community farms. Together, they aim to lower the cost of care by bringing non-pharmaceutical health & wellness products into consumers’ everyday lives, drawing on lessons from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness techniques to support focus, anxiety relief, memory health, and longevity. Mind Garden hopes to bring a physical Mindfulness Tea House concept to the local community, and Mike welcomes inquiries from anyone interested in partnering or investing.
Mike is also innovating in the ocean water and climate sustainability space with Ocean Plant Nutrients PBC. The company locally sources and recycles wastewater offtake to produce nutrient-rich fertilizer, fresh water, and retail umami salt, all while cleaning our shared natural ecosystem and helping make local shores safe, swimmable, and surfable for everyone. This first-of-its-kind ocean water energy venture is seeking blue ocean partnerships and pre-seed investment within the San Diego community as it scales its novel technology across the region’s agricultural micro-economy, a need made all the more pressing as the Super El Niño goes the distance.
